Notes: The 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) in diameter, green to reddish brown cones are covered in a waxy, white bloom. The edible, but strongly juniper-flavored cones are eaten by wildlife. The blue-green leaves are tiny and scale-like. The distinctive bark looks like an alligator's back. It grows above 4000 feet (1219 m).
